The Wii Logo And What It Means
The Nintendo Wii has captured people’s attention and has become a gaming system that many families are purchasing. The Wii system is an easy to use gaming program that everyone in the family can enjoy and play together. The games allow for players to actively control the characters motions and adventures.
How The Wii Logo Came About
The Nintendo GameCube was the forerunner to the Wii system. The creators of the Nintendo Game Cube could see the strong potential that this gaming system had, but wanted to expand the way people played games. Nintendo continued to develop gaming systems including the handheld Nintendo DS. These gaming systems allowed Nintendo to research for its next console, the Wii.
The Wii logo was not the original name or logo created by Nintendo. The Wii logo originally was slated to be Revolution. The Wii logo is also the first game manufactured by Nintendo that doesn’t have the Nintendo in front of it. The Wii logo stands on its own as the creators intended it too.
Although many consumers and marketing experts felt that the name Revolution was a better choice, the Wii logo was determined to be the one and only appropriate name for this gaming system. It was thought by the Nintendo Company that the name Revolution may not translate well into other markets. They wanted a simple name that would be remembered.
The Wii logo consists of a capital W and two small ii’s. These small letters are said to represent two people, or players coming together to play the game. The Wii logo is also said to represent the word “we”, again emphasizing the interaction of the system between people, not just a player and a game. The Wii logo was made to showcase how this system is for everyone, not just the hardcore gamers, but families to get together and play together.
Although critics did not like the new name and logo, Nintendo had every intention of keeping and supporting its Wii logo. They felt that the logo and name gave an impression of the flexibility of the system and was not only a good marketing strategy, but also in keeping with what they had designed the game console to be.
Now that the Wii system is out and popular with consumers, no one considers the Wii logo strange or inappropriate. The Wii logo is a symbol of family fun and game playing challenges for everyone.
